How is Container different from Compute?

Container bills only while it runs and can sleep to zero. Compute reserves a machine and bills for the reservation, so it never has to start. Use Container for bursty work and Compute for anything that must answer instantly at any hour.

How long does waking from sleep take?

It is a container start, not a function cold start. The image is already on the machine, so nothing is fetched first. If that pause matters, keep the workload warm on Compute instead.

Am I billed while the container is asleep?

For storage, yes. For compute, no. The image and volume keep occupying disk, so the storage meter keeps running. CPU and memory stop with the process.

Can I run scheduled jobs on it?

Yes. Each run is recorded with its exit status. A run whose status cannot be read is recorded as failed, with the reason stated.

Can I use it for a front end?

You can, but Edge is built for front ends and includes per-branch previews. Container is for everything that is not a front end.
